Weekend update

Saanichton, B.C. - This weekend will feature a full slate of games across the BCEHL. A total of 30 teams will be in action across the four leagues. Let's take a look to see what the weekend has in store!

Female U18 AAA

Winners of three straight games, the Northern Capitals welcome the Vancouver Island Seals to Prince George for a three-game series. Capitals forward Abby Bryant enters the weekend on a four-game point streak, where she has collected six points (3g-3a) over that span. Grace Gonyer’s nine goals leads the Seals and is tied for second in the U18 Female league. Elsewhere, the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers meet with the Fraser Valley Rush. Cassidy Bank will look to extend her goal scoring streak as the Lakers’ forward has recorded three goals in her last two games, while Katherine Leroux has recorded five points (4g-1a) over her last two games for the Rush.

U18 AAA 

In a busy weekend across the U18 league, the North Island Silvertips travel north to take on the third-place Cariboo Cougars. The Cougars have been red hot as of late, winning five of their last six contests, with forward Joshua Sale collecting 10 points (2g-8a) over that span. Winners of three of their previous four games, the Vancouver NW Hawks face the Thompson Blazers in Kamloops. Joshua Ravensbergen’s four victories on the season has him tied for first in the U18 league, while his 1.93 goals against average ranks among the very best. In a matchup between two of the highest scoring offenses in the league, the Vancouver NE Chiefs square off against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. Both clubs have averaged over five goals per game in what could be a high-scoring matchup. Erik Pastro and the Okanagan Rockets will be put to the test against Matthew Candusso and the Valley West Giants. Candusso’s sparkling 1.42 goals against average ranks first among all goaltenders, while Pastro’s 16 points (6g-10a) ranks first among all skaters.

U17 AAA 

Last weekend, the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds were crowned the winners of the Bauer U17 Elite Invite Tournament. The tournament was comprised of 11 teams from the BCEHL, CSSHL, and programs from Alberta and California. Returning to regular league play, the Thunderbirds meet the Valley West Giants for a home-and-home series. The Thunderbirds have received fantastic goaltending through their first six games, as the tandem of Jake Torget and Nathan Niedermeiser have combined for a goals against average of 1.67. The pair of Jared Miskiw and Devon Mahil have paced the Giants offensively as of late, each recording three points over their last two games. Currently riding a three-game winning streak, the Greater Vancouver Canadians welcome the Thompson Blazers for a pair of games at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Nicholas Kolb (4g-3a) has recorded a point in each of the Canadians’ five games to start the year. In a clash of two of the hottest teams in the U17 league, the Okanagan Rockets welcome the Cariboo Cougars to Kelowna. With a record of 6-0-0-0 to start their campaign, the Rockets goaltending tandem of Ethan Sawyer and Elijah Henson have combined to allow fewer than two goals per game. Lucas Woodbeck’s six game point streak (3g-4a) has guided the Cougars to three victories over their last four games. Elsewhere, the Vancouver NW Hawks meet the South Island Royals in Vancouver. The Royals’ offense has been on full display through their first eight games, as Carter Zeeben’s 16 points (10g-6a) leads all forwards, while Sullivan Humeniuk’s 11 points (1g-10a) ranks first among all defenders. Jakob Tice will look to continue his recent success, as the Hawks forward has five points (2g-3a) over his last two games.

U15 AAA

In a busy slate across the U15 league, the Thompson Blazers welcome the Valley West Giants for a weekend series. Stellar goaltending has led the Giants to a strong start to their season, with the tandem of Roman Singh and Tyson Hooker allowing a combined nine goals through six games. Aiden Baker has been in a groove offensively as of late, recording six points (4g-2a) over his last five games. Currently riding a four-game winning streak, the Vancouver NW Hawks meet the Okanagan Rockets. The two teams met twice during the U15 showcase in Langley, where the Rockets handed the Hawks their only two losses on the year. League leading scorer Charles Robinson and the Vancouver NE Chiefs take on the Greater Vancouver Canadians. Robinson has had his name all over the scoresheet as of late, recording 10 points (7g-3a) over his last three games. Canadians goaltender Alan Richard Peregrym has been stellar through three starts this season, allowing a total of five goals. The goaltending duo of Mason Clegg and Graydon Van der Zweep lead the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds into a matchup with the Cariboo Cougars in Prince George. Through six games, Clegg and Van der Zweep have limited their opponents to a total of nine goals. The pair will be put to the test by the Cougars’ offense, led by Jaxon Larmand’s eight goals, which ranks him among the league leaders in goals.
